Operation Day

A brief overview of operation day

Some people are a bit worried about the operation so I thought I would tell you more about it.

It is a very routine operation at all vet clinics and the dogs will get a sedation with strong pain relief before the anaesthetic, so they are not aware of anything going on. The nurses give them a lovely cuddle when the anaesthetic is given. There will also be a nurse monitoring your pet during the anaesthetic to make sure everything is going ok. They are often better without you staying around so don’t worry about letting them stay in the clinic for the day, all the vet staff are professionals who really do care about their patients.

When your puppy wakes up she/he will be a bit drowsy but the nurse will watch them closely, and they will have another pain relief injection given before they go home. Often they will be a bit sleepy for a day or so afterwards, which is normal, and it is important to keep him/her quiet and resting for 7 – 10 days. All the dogs cope really really well with the operation, and it is worth it to prevent her developing cancer or accidentally getting pregnant which is much more of a concern!
