Animal Advocate21 September, 1974 - 5 January, 2017
On January 5, 2017 we lost a friend and advocate of the Charity, Vicky, the Team Leader at Silverdale Animal Shelter. To honour her memory we would like to invite you all to participate in our tribute to her. It will be made up of two parts; a collection for her beloved shelter, and a desexing campaign - to help stem the flow of unwanted puppies to the shelter.
Vicky would want her puppies to have access to the little things that we as dog owners often take for granted. Therefore we invite you to donate the following (new or used) items:
Donations can be dropped to HURRAH HQ
Sadly, Vicky's animal shelter takes in thousands of unwanted dogs each year. By participating in our latest campaign you can help reduce the number of unwanted puppies admitted to the shelter system, while meeting your dogs basic veterinary and legal needs. For $55 you can access the following:
You must hold a current community services card, and the dog must be your family pet. Bookings are essential and on a first in first served basis. HURRAH reserve the right to refuse access to the service.
Massive thanks to Vet Associates in Takanini for supporting our tribute. Bookings for our Febraury campaign will open via Facebook shortly.

Desexing is the general term for a Ovariohysterectomy for females (removing the ovaries and uterus) and Orchidectomy for males (removing the testicles)
Male dogs who are not neutered are at risk of prostate disease. So what is the Prostate? The prostate is an accessory sex gland
Some people are a bit worried about the operation so I thought I would tell you more about it. It is a very routine operation at all vet clinics
Pyometra is as an infection in the uterus or womb, this is seen in female dogs who have not been speyed. More often in older dogs who have had multiple seasons
HURRAH is run soley by Volunteers. We aim to respond to all requests within 48 hours. Thank you for you patience.
